Important Facts
- The LCPS Academy
of Science opened in 2005-06. It expanded the academic program to all 9th
through 12th grade students in 2006-07. The LCPS Academy of Science is designed
to provide an academic environment where students are encouraged to develop
their own creative scientific endeavors, while pursuing a rich well-rounded
high school experience.
- C.S. Monroe
Technology Center offers high school students advanced training in 23 specialized
fields. General Motors chose MTC as the first school in the nation to pilot
the GM-YES Program with mentorships for students at area automobile dealerships.
- Loudoun County
was one of three demonstration school systems selected by the national School
Boards Association (NSBA) as a Technology Host Site. Educators from around
the nation came to Loudoun to see how LCPS uses technology to enhance learning.
- 128 LCPS students
will attend Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology for the
2007-08 school year. (This represents an increased enrollment of 14 students.)
- 28 LCPS students
attended the 2007 Summer Residential Governor's School. 4,901 LCPS students
were served in Gifted Education Programs in 2006-07.
19 students
attended the 2007 Governor's Foreign Language Academies.
- LCPS is a winner
of the 2007 Annual School System "What Parents Want" Award presented
by School Match.
- LCPS graduates
earned more than $12,224,554 in scholarships and financial aid in 2007.
- In 2007, 90
percent of graduates continued formal education; 86 percent went to college.
- 41 LCPS students
in grades seven and eight were honored by the Johns Hopkins University Center
for Talented Youth in 2006-07.

for Talented Youth (CTY) identifies
students who are among the most academically gifted youth in the U.S.
- LCPS students
won 11 top honors at the 2007 Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair.
- Eagle Ridge
and Farmwell Station middle schools are named "Schools to Watch"
by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform. Only 85 schools
nationwide have achieved this designation.
- In 2007, Forbes.com
ranked Loudoun County Public Schools 11th in a nationwide survey of which
school systems deliver high performance at low cost.
